Comfort Lap & Baby Blankets for Local Agencies

This month we want to challenge you to practice your current stitches and learn some new ones by creating a comfort lap or baby blanket to donate to a local agency. These blankets can provide not only comfort and warmth to someone who may need it, but will also remind them that there is someone who cares and is praying for them. We will post links to several blanket patterns that we recommend, but you can search for your own patterns or create one of your own creations. This month's donations will be supporting the Pregnancy Care Center through St. Stephen's Comfort Dog Ministry and Camp Eagle Rock's Military family support.

If you have another agency that you would like to donate to directly, please let us know who and how you've donated. We would love to see your project and learn about other needs in our community and share it with our other makers.

We do not have required specifications for these blankets, but have suggested specifications to help you find and work on your blankets.

Suggested Lap Blanket Specifications

A lap blanket or “lapghan” is made to fit over a wheelchair or someone in a sitting position.

Lap blanket suggested sizes:

32″ to 48″ (81-122 cm) wide and 35″ x 40″ (89-102 cm) in length

Suggested Baby Blanket Specifications

Baby blankets may vary in size and style. Yarn should be appropriate for babies. Recommended is soft, washable, breathable yarns. Soft and natural fibers such as cotton are recommended, which is unlikely to irritate a baby’s sensitive skin.

Here are some suggested sizes: Swaddle blankets - 40×40 to 48×48 (approx.)

Receiving blankets - 18-inch square to a 36-inch square

Crib blankets - 40 inches by 60 inches

Multi-use blankets - 30 to 40 inches
